Created in 1995 to provide a University-wide focus on
environmental studies, the School of the Environment
represents a novel interdisciplinary approach to address
environmental issues and problems through research and
scholarship. The School consists of faculty in affiliated
departments, centers, and institutes and includes such
divergent fields as physical and natural sciences,
computational science, social science, business,
engineering, law, liberal arts, public health, and
journalism.
The School of the Environment fosters environmental
education across the University, while also stimulating
service activities for the public and private sectors. The
School's faculty conduct research and educate students and
professionals in complex environmental issues and their
fundamental importance for society and future generations.
