Semester Courses

· EMS Assessment and Implementation—This course provides the student with information on international and national environmental issues that affect a company’s marketing, production, and management practices. Students will learn the significance of using the EMS tool in managing, measuring and improving business operations to gain a competitive market advantage as well as protecting the environment, enhancing social well being and maximizing profits.

· ISO 14001 EMS Auditor—Established to educate students in EMS auditing and provide the knowledge and skills necessary to plan, conduct, and lead audits of an EMS. This course will enhance environmental management and auditing skills, including report writing and preparing corrective actions. This course approved through the USC Graduate School and School of the Environment is the only University approved EMS Lead Auditing Course in the U.S.  It is offered in association with Pillar Management Associates, an accredited RABQSA course provider.

· Environmental Management Tools—This course will focus on implementation of environmental management tools using the ISO 14000 Environmental Management Standard Series. The course integrates the ISO 14001 EMS specification and guidance standard with ISO 14040-Life Cycle Assessment, ISO 14031-Environmental Performance and Evaluation, and other standards. Students will gain knowledge and understanding in management systems integration, including environmental, health and safety, and quality.

Training

· ISO 14001 Overview3 hours—Provides the participant with information on the international ISO 14001 EMS standard. Review the standard requirements and gives implementation examples and links to other EMS resources.

· EMS/ISO 14001 for Managers—One Day—Training is designed for managers assigned the responsibility of working with EMS implementation teams. Review of the standard requirements and facilitation techniques for creating successful ISO 14001 implementation teams.

· Aspects and Impacts DevelopmentTwo DaysThis training is conducted on the organization’s site. Learn how to identify aspects and impacts from your organization's activities, products and services. Day One—Classroom training will be followed with on site identification of aspects and impacts. Day Two—Listing and ranking of aspects and impacts.

· Internal Auditor Training for New AuditorsThree Days—Participants will gain knowledge of the ISO 14001 EMS standard and the key points in auditing the standard requirements. Exercises in auditing techniques, writing audit reports, non-conformances and corrective actions will ensure understanding of key auditor responsibilities. One day of mock audits. If training takes place on at the organization’s site, practice audits will be conducted on selected departments or facilities.

· EMS Training for Compliance AuditorsTwo DaysThis course reviews the ISO 14001 EMS standard elements and assists compliance auditors in understanding how an EMS benefits an organization's regulatory management program.

· EMS Auditor Training for Quality AuditorsTwo Days—Using the auditing skills gained in conducting quality audits, this training will introduce the quality auditor to the ISO 14001 standard requirements. ISO 14001 EMS mock audits will be conducted. If training is conducted at a customer site, an EMS GAP Analysis will be conducted on day two.

· EH&S Integration with ISO 14001One Day—Best instigation techniques will be presented and examples of how the ISO 14001 elements are integrated with the organization’s existing EH&S. The British Standard 18001 Health and Occupational Safety Standard will be used as a model for integration.

· ISO 9000 Integration with ISO 14001One Day—Based on the ISO 9000/2000 Revision, this training will provide participants with best integration techniques to use the ISO 9000 QMS standard as a base for ISO 14001 implementation.

· SOE/EMS Coaching Program—Six Days over period of 9-12 months—This program combines training and EMS implementation and auditing assistance. The six days include four (4) one-day EMS training sessions for the organization’s implementation team, and two (2) audit days. The EMS implementation team is provided four (4) one-day training sessions. Implementation tasks are assigned to the team members to complete after each session. Upon completion of the training sessions and EMS implementation the organization will receive a two-day EMS audit conducted by a RAB Certified ISO 14001 EMS Lead Auditor.

· EMS Customized Training Development—Assistance in design of training programs to fit specific organizational needs.
